Lo Wing Yan, Winnie Graduate of Higher Diploma in Dental Hygiene (2012-14)

Without a doubt, this two-year programme is a very comprehensive course, which has fostered my development as a professional dental hygienist. All the training I received from the course can equip me to practically apply in my dental hygienist career. The communication skills developed in the Generic Skills Courses improved my language competency and built up my self-confidence. At the beginning of the course, the Problem-based Learning (PBL) module was definitely a challenge to me because this learning approach was radically new to me. From the presentations in the PBL class, I gradually learnt how to address the compelling practical or theoretical problem, communicate information and ideas to my peers. Proper skills in solving problem were also developed through self-learning and group discussion. The Clinical Training sessions offered me invaluable hands-on practical experience in managing and treating authentic patients suffering from oral hygiene / health problems. With guidance from the clinical supervisors, I learnt the skills to build rapport with patients and properly deliver treatment to patients who suffer from periodontal disease, dental caries or other oral health problems. The professional trainings I got from the Higher Diploma in Dental Hygiene programme have undoubtedly been helpful to my career in dental health services. I am proud to be a graduate from this programme and to serve the community in Hong Kong. 查看詳情

Michelle Woo Graduate of Higher Diploma in Library and Information Management in 2013-14

Studying in this programme, I have gained professional knowledge of marketing and management, and skills in searching for and organising information. The programme has given me a good grounding in understanding the role of information and information management in various organisational settings and societies. The programme also provides internships to its students and everyone has a chance to work in different types of libraries. For me, I did my work placements in an international library and in an academic library. This, and other elements of the programme enabled me to develop capabilities in collaboration and communication with peers. I felt so disappointed when I failed to gain admission to a local university after taking the public examinations. Yet studying in the Higher Diploma in Engineering programme at HKU SPACE Community College has given me a chance to achieve my goal. At the end of my first year, I realized that studying in HKU SPACE Community College had benefited me beyond my expectations. Apart from the skills and knowledge I learnt from the lectures, the different kinds of activities, such as laboratory sessions, site visits and placements, broadened my horizons. At the age of information explosion, information comes in many forms. Many organisations and establishments require information professionals to manage and organise different materials. This programme assisted me to make adequate preparation and be well-prepared for becoming an information professional. The lectures were interactive and many interesting activities were provided such as designing a leaflet, making a fascinating display for kids to cultivate their reading habits, interviewing professional cataloguers, and visiting libraries. Also, I have gained real working experience in different types of libraries. In addition, I am so grateful to be taught by such selfless lecturers who were willing to share their knowledge and valuable experience, and provide support with practical advice.
