James YAU 2020 Higher Diploma in Architectural Studies, HKU SPACE Community College

My time in HDARCH was an essential journey of self-exploration and becoming more mature as a designer. The school has helped to shape my passion for design research, giving me space to concentrate on themes I feel that matter to the World and my community. One of the wonders of architecture is that the field is always changing and constantly demands innovation. Our projects often demanded us rethink the World through an in-depth investigation of different scales, from urban to human ergonomics. The course will push and refine your creative thinking on every problem. In Pre-Covid times, we also got to do projects in different parts of the World. One of my most significant experiences in designing and building a school in Cambodia during our summer holiday. Where we experienced a vigorous two-week design process from start to finish. I learned the attention to detail and how architecture is a group process. Another notable aspect of this course is the inclusion of a diverse age group of students in the later years. Incorporating different qualities and work experiences with designers is a valuable lesson to learn. Sometimes problems in the group and the project can seem overwhelming, and things become uncertain about constantly brainstorming. Part of being a designer is seeing how you continue to solve these problems. Looking for quick and strategic decision-making is vital in the field of architecture. Each class offers its own perspective on your design process and a unique opportunity to refine your proposal. I learned a valuable lesson of integrating different practices into my design to make my project rich. Everything is a learning tool for innovation. Being able to study LLB in City U with only 13 scores from DSE best 6 is astonishing and inspiring. Associate of Arts in Legal Studies in HKU SPACE Community College gave me the opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects in the field of law. My two years at the HKU SPACE CC were fun and rewarding. The various courses provided by the HD TRA program were beneficial not only academically but personally too. Translation and linguistic courses paved the way for my study at the university level as a solid introduction to the art of translating, while interpretation and English classes further reinforced my confidence in spoken and written English. I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and joy when I finally graduated with a qualification of High Diploma in Dental Hygiene. Before I joined this programme, I’d always been inspired to become a healthcare professional. It was not until I realised dental health plays an important and indispensable role in our well-being did I decide to apply for this programme. In the grand scheme of things, this programme not only provided useful textbook knowledge about dental health, but also hands-on clinical sessions that took a holistic approach to treating patients. The teachers of the programme were extremely kind, helpful and knowledgeable. They brought a lot of experience and skills to the table. I was pleased and grateful for their help and support. I was also glad that I met some friendly peers who were truly my staunch friends and allies during my study journey. Now that I’m a qualified dental hygienist, my experience and skills have been honed to the next level. Jeffrey Chan 2018-19 Diploma in Foundation Studies

Studying Diploma in Foundation Studies programme (DFS) gave me a chance to gain different professional knowledge through a multidisciplinary curriculum, such as science, culture, history, etc. It was a fantastic learning experience because I could understand the world more from different perspectives. The college granted me a lot of chances to learn with captivating activities. These experiences further ignited my interest in studying. During my DFS study, I was always given chances for group discussions which are a platform that I could communicate with others in English and get immediate feedback and advice from my teachers. The learning process was amazing and I could boost my English speaking. Last but not least, the warm and positive learning atmosphere in DFS was the catalyst and motivation supporting me to study further and continuously explore my curiosity of the world.
