After receiving my HKDSE results, I felt disappointed and I was confused about my future. However, by having the valuable chance to complete the Higher Diploma in Engineering programme at HKU SPACE Community College, I was able to develop practical skills and knowledge through lectures, lab sessions and site visits. I chose this programme because I want to learn the entire production process and the essential factors in today's product design industry so that I could make use of the knowledge learnt to design my own products in the future. The programme does not just deepen my understanding and knowledge of product design technology but also allows me to meet many new friends and lecturers who are very innovative and creative. The assignments and projects are practical such that we could apply the knowledge learnt to a very practical context. The programme also provides us opportunities to visit the design factories and companies so that we could learn more about the details of industry operation. If there is one word that can precisely describe my two-year journey here, this must be "FRUITFUL". When I first entered this community college, I was in a state of self-denial due to the failure in public examination. Fortunately, HKU SPACE CC has provided a platform for me to self reflect and rethink my life goal. I feel thankful to have met many kind and helpful lecturers from social sciences domain. They helped me to go through a myriad of difficulties such as assignments and university interviews. It is also important to have mutual support from HKU SPACE CC friends in this fruitful journey. Besides, I have changed my own mindset and leant to think critically towards everything. I was acting like a robot at my secondary school years, such as just following everyone without my own critical judgment. Through studying sociology, I am equipped to think bigger. Not only focus on the individual but also to be aware of the outside world. Just because one never experiences it doesn't mean the outside world doesn't exist. Disappointed with my HKALE results, I was encouraged by my family to join the Higher Diploma programme in Engineering at HKU SPACE Community College. This programme not only well equipped me with critical and independent thinking skills, but also with the fundamentals of appropriate presentation and communication strategies. College life was flexible and the learning experience was rather different from secondary school. Company visits and field trips were organised regularly and broadened my horizons in relation to the various engineering fields. The invaluable engineering skills and techniques gained from the courses also helped me to become well-prepared for my further study and career.
