近年香港及粵港澳大灣區之基礎設施發展持續增加,以致未來十年社會及業界對有熟練知識及訓練有素的技術人員之需求不斷增長,特別在土力工程及相關建築行業更為供不應求。在2017年施政報告所述,香港政府將會更進一步推動多元創新發展項目及計劃。而最大的人才需求是具有半專業或以上的大專學歷畢業生。畢業生可投身於土力工程或相關建築領域行業並擔任不同範疇工作。
課程目標及特點
本課程旨在教授工程地質及土力工程勘探之基礎知識及應用技能,為幫助日後有志投身土力工程或相關建築行業的同學打下堅實根基。同學將從不同範疇的學科中掌握及鞏固專業知識及技能,包括可轉移的體驗學習經歷,機構實習實踐項目運作及管理技能、實驗室測試、實地儀器應用及土力工程勘探等。
為切合社會及業界需要,本學院一直與業界、政府及相關專業學會緊密聯繫,並獲得業界、政府及專業學會的支持和肯定,為本課程設計提供寶貴意見及支援。當中包括︰

實習計劃
本課程獲得本地多個業界支持,學生有機會於相關機構實習,以掌握專業知識及技能應用,並了解行業的情況,表現優異的學生更可與業界增強聯繫,於畢業後順利與職場接軌。
專業認可
本課程設計以符合香港特別行政區政府土力工程處技術主任(土力工程)之職位及屋宇署認可之政府合約之第三類勝任人士之學歷要求。(本課程現正尋求及申請上述專業資格認可)。

本課程致力裝備有志投身土力工程及建築行業之學生成為業界專才,並於畢業後能從事相關行業,學生可選擇持續進修以及銜接本地及海外的相關學位課程 (地質學或土力工程學等) 。

- 2025 Graduate, advanced to Civil Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Through the two-year Higher Diploma in Geotechnical Engineering (HDGE), I have gained many opportunities to interact
with the industry which totally changed my study mindset. Throughout the course, lecturing, project assignments and handson exercises of the specialism courses have contributed to a deep understanding of Hong Kong geology and its engineering properties for me. Performing real case studies on construction projects instilled an engineer’s and geologist’s thinking about the site environment and its interpretation which is very meaningful to me. The most significant experience is the internship program, through which I was assigned to the Geotechnical Engineering Office, Civil Engineering and Development Department (GEO, CEDD). I worked with many engineers at GEO and gained much working experience in different divisions. The main focus was on slope safety and laboratory testing, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), LiDAR scanning, drone, 3d-DMM, Digital Aerial Photograph Interpretation (DAPI), rain gauge system, Geographic Information System (GIS), etc. I was fortunate to work with such innovative developments and gained valuable professional knowledge.

My time studying at HKU SPACE Community College has been filled with enthusiasm and joy. It has been a privilege to learn alongside a group of friends who are equally eager to grow. I thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative process during group research projects, where we not only applied the knowledge gained in class but also acquired new insights along the way. All the lecturers are kind, knowledgeable, and highly experienced. It has been a true blessing to learn from professional engineers who are not only experts in their field but also willing to guide us in thinking critically and engaging in meaningful discussions. The internship experience stands out as one of the most memorable parts of my journey. Through it, I truly learned how to manage my time and maintain self-discipline in both academic and professional settings. These experiences have further strengthened my resolve to
become a dedicated geotechnical engineer in the future.

I am a graduate of Higher Diploma in Geotechnical Engineering. The support from the faculty and staff has been instrumental in my academic and personal growth during the two-year-study at HKUSPACE Community College. Lecturers are full of passion and patience. They not only taught patiently on the lectures but also offered some engaging discussion and insightful feedback for us to deepen our understanding of academic theory and develop our critical thinking. I am particularly thankful for the extra time they devoted to our questions and the encouragement they provided during the challenging assignments. In addition to in-class teaching, field trips and site visits provided by the HDGE program helped me to realize the real work environment of Geotechnical engineering. I also met friends on interesting activities held by HKUSPACE Community College which enriched my college’s life.

Every failure is a valuable experience for us to move forward. The HKDSE is not the only path for you to study at a university and you should never give up. I am more motivated to study at HKU SPACE CC since I really love the programme that I studied. I am grateful for the teaching and help from all the people involved in this programme. The knowledge that I learned is highly related to my future career which encouraged me to put effort into study. Moreover, the industrial placement arranged by the College that enabled me to sharpen my skills in a professional manner. With sufficient knowledge and understanding of it, I have determined the career goals and path that I should pursue.
