It is believed that change and volatility are essential elements of life in the globalised world. To thrive in this fast-changing, unpredictable environment, it is essential to develop one’s ability to cope with, and even foresee, the challenges. Knowing oneself and others, mastering the logic underlying change, and understanding its consequences are how we could find our niche and prosper in society. It is to this end that the programme of Associate of Social Sciences (ASocSci) has been developed to build a gateway to the academic and professional world.

From the foundation in social sciences to the training in international relations, what I learned in HKU SPACE CC changed me to become an informed citizen. The concepts/theories might not be easy to understand and the study methods were different from secondary school. The passionate and helpful lecturers guided me to fit into the new environment. The two-year study equipped me with knowledge. I also made friends and gained support from them. Most importantly, the two-year time here led me to a clear path in my future.

Political studies helped me find a pathway to pass through "the valley of the shadow of death". I could explore the world of politics with systematic research methods, and develop an understanding of international relations. Moreover, I have to thank all the lecturers. I would not be able to pursue my further studies without their warm support and guidance throughout these two years.

I got only 20 marks in HKDSE and only level 3 for the English subject; therefore, I chose to study in HKU SPACE CC in pursuit of a chance to enter university. The learning style was totally different from the secondary school. Time management was very important, and early preparation for Non-JUPAS application, such as taking the IELTS and GCE examination, is also crucial. Besides, lecturers and counsellors helped me a lot, for example, they organised mock interview for us. They were also willing to help me overcome my academic difficulties and share me experiences about applying for bachelor's degree programmes in universities.
