Important Message from College Principal - Class arrangement for Semester 1, 2020-21

2020年08月19日

Dear Students,

Let me welcome you to the new academic year in a historic time.

As the new semester will commence in a few weeks on 17 September 2020, I would like to update you the class arrangement for the semester.  While the global pandemic has brought about many challenges to learning due to suspension of in-person meetings, CC is well prepared to minimize disruption to student learning. As early as 2 years ago, CC undertook initiatives to revamp our curricular and assessment designs to align with the modern education approaches, incorporating effective use of learning technologies. Our migration onto online instruction last semester was by far very smooth and effective. Many students actually found certain features of online instruction such as the ability to revisit recorded lectures and spontaneous breakout chat sessions very useful and even superior to conventional learning.

We will continue to improve our preparation to ensure a meaningful learning experience for our students amidst the coronavirus outbreak. Training workshops are organised to prepare our teachers for the rapidly developing learning technology. By the end of this month, all of the 100+ classrooms in our various learning centres will be retrofitted with upgraded teaching stations, allowing students at remote sites to attend instructional activities in synchronous and effective manner.  Some classrooms are being purposely converted into distant learning venues. All courses are revised to ensure effective delivery using multiple modes of instruction.

Given the current resurgence of Covid-19 cases, the College will commence the semester with online instruction for the first two weeks on 17-30 September.  During this period, classes will be delivered at the time-tabled slots by synchronous instruction via Zoom.  All the course materials, recorded lectures and Zoom meeting links will be posted on SOUL. The College will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and if situation permits, face-to-face classes will be resumed as far as practicable.  The teaching arrangement onwards of 3 October will be announced on or before 4 September 2020.

We will continue to provide student counseling and advisory service online during the periods of in-person class suspension. College campuses will remain open with some adjustments to the opening hours.  Please check regularly latest information posted by the College on the Learner Portal.

Please stay vigilant and take your health as the top priority! I look forward to meeting you in person!
