During the 2 years in the AAMCCS programme, I have met countless creative and unconventional people, including students, tutors and lecturers. They have inspired and reignited my passion for learning about everyday culture, from examining its dominant ideologies to discussing the common usage of memes or emojis. I am ready to explore more surprising and fascinating things in everyday life.

It was frustrating that I did not achieve my goals in HKDSE. Yet, HKU SPACE CC and the AAMCCS programme have introduced to me a brand-new world with unique perspectives. The lectures developed my critical thinking skills, which not only apply to the coursework, but also my life target. After two years of precious progress, I strongly believe that I am fully equipped, and I am ready to take the upcoming challenges in order to achieve my goal.

Academically, this programme allowed me to gain professional knowledge in appreciating creative works done by different kinds of people. Yet, the most enjoyable part for me is having the opportunity to write stories, make short movies, songs, and animations. Working with groupmates on creating cultural spaces in class and doing presentations and performances are also incredible and memorable.

After the torturing battle of DSE, it is easy for we students to feel lost in the sea of opportunities and career paths. HKU SPACE and AAMCCS have introduced me to the fascinating world of cultural studies with introductory courses. It also sparked my interest in this field of study which really gave me a clear goal. With that, I was able to shake off my sense of disorientation in exchange for a clear, dedicated mind to pursue my dream.

I never thought that doing papers and group projects could be so interesting until I studied MCCS. Unlike the other disciplines, MCCS does not require a lot of memorizing but encourages students to rethink different aspects of life and find out the underlying ideologies and power relations. Through lectures like ‘Gender and Society’, ‘Media, Society and Consumer Culture’ and ‘Questioning Cultural Identities’, I was equipped with techniques which could be useful in the future for understanding the world. MCCS has definitely transformed my perspective of the world around me and helped me find my future paths.

During the two-year study at SPACE CC, what I gained most was advice from lecturers. A school life is never only acquiring knowledge, but also building up relationships.

MCS exposes me to a new and critical approach to popular culture and daily practices. The concepts are not difficult to understand if you could pay attention to the lectures and try to apply them in any cultural phenomenon.  Keep thinking and questioning the things around you outside the lecture!

I always believe life is a perpetual struggle. However, I was puzzled for what is the uncertain power that I am opposing to. The courses have provided me the answer and it is ideologies. The programme has given me entirely new angles in viewing the world with theories of postmodernism, and has inspired me to rethink my whole life in various aspects just like the formation of my identities and gender.

HKU SPACE CC has been a great place for me to obtain knowledge about our everyday life. Our daily practices have their own origin, and everything that seems normal is actually ideological. I am pretty sure you will see the world in a completely different perspective, and what you usually see every day will never be the same after studying here.

Entering CC reignited my hope and I never thought that my dream would come true after two-year of study here. I acquired knowledge from different scopes, which I did not learn from the previous education. Also, the peers and lecturers in CC provided me with great support.
